Do you find yourself grazing all day on caffeine & sugar to keep you going, which then keeps you awake at night? This not uncommon & something I see often with women struggling to reach their fitness goals. It might feel like you're on autopilot, which will leave you with minimal energy to recognize the emotional triggers behind your eating. I call this trigger the.... . . 4️⃣ZOMBIE EATER‼️ Even one night of poor sleep can cause a cascade of hormonal imbalance that leads to sugar & caffeine reliance. A Lack of sleep upsets insulin levels, resulting in spikes & crashes of blood sugar. Since our brain is the top consumer of glucose in the body, you’ll crave more sugar & caffeine to get through the day & to focus. If we’re sleep-deprived, we won’t produce as much leptin in our fat cells overnight. That’s the hormone that tells our brains we’re full. Research has stated that we can consume about 300+ calories more a day following bad sleep. . . ➡️So what can you do? First, you need to understand why you behave the way you do. You might be ruled by subconscious snacking & crashing. Trying tracking down your food in a notebook & log the strength of your hunger from 1 to 10. Stop mindless grazing & aim for genuine hunger of 9 or 10 before you eat. Write down whatever comes into your mind the moment you reach for a snack. Repeat it each time you have a craving to understand what’s motivating your eating. Before long you start doing that instinctively. . . You can also tackle sleep issues, by downloading an app called Sleepio (iTunes), which uses CBT to help you fall asleep. . . How much sleep did you get last night?
