Read below for full details, and to learn the alignment for the foundational poses of yoga, with their modifications and progressions, check out our yearbooks (link in bio) 🙏🏻❤️ Make sure you share this with someone that could benefit and save it for your personal practice! Thanks for sharing @esthermarie.yoga #inflexibleyogis These tutorials are to highlight what I’ve noticed in class as a teacher and student of yoga. How our egos crop up on the mat and robs us from the real peaceful and kind essence of a yoga practice. . 🧘🏻‍♀️Firstly, What is ego? Ego is that voice in your mind that either critiques you, pushes you, compares you. It’s the voice that tempts you to look around the yoga room to compare your practice to others and then bombards you with harsh inner dialogue as to why you are not as good/ strong/ bendy as them . 🧘🏻‍♀️What is Alignment ? When I teach or practice yoga I use alignment in 2 ways. 1) Regarding the physical posture to keep my body safe 2) Regarding Values staying aligned to my values I want to live by - values like kindness, acceptance, non attachment and contentment . 💖Today’s comparison I’ve highlighted the main ego push points in this pose vs the alignment cues I would use to uphold the integrity of the pose and honour your body . . 👹Ego picture👹 🙄Unnecessary HYPER extended lifted leg for no other reason than glory and external gratification 🙄FORCING the leg upwards beyond functional level 🙄SLOUCHING the spine compressing discs in lower back 🙄NOT maintaining integrity of pose by having to bend the standing leg 🙄COMPRISING health for image 🙄ATTACHMENT to visual image instead feeling . . 💖Alignment picture💖 🙏🏼MICRO bend in standing leg 🙏🏼PROTECTING discs of spine by straight back 🙏🏼PROPORTIONATE extension of leg 🙏🏼STRENGTH and active thigh and glutes 🙏🏼BALANCED hips 🙏🏼FOCUS ON SELF NO-ONE ELSE . . . Next time you come to the mat in class or at home and you feel that critical voice inside ask yourself, how do you want to show up today? . I hope this helps you and your practice Sending love xox @inflexibleyogis inflexibleyogis Yoga For The Non Flexible

The right versions alignment is wrong . Hyper extended need and she doesn’t have the core and leg muscles engaged to lift her foot. She is using her upper body strength the pull leg up and it is why she is leaning forward instead of extending up thru crown. She is still performing.
