‘And if I asked you to name all the people you love, how long would it take for you to name yourself?’ ✨ I read this on a card while waiting to post a letter at the post office. The thought followed me around all day. A simple question but so evocative. For me it was a ‘holy shit’ moment followed surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly by a sense of guilt that I could even think about putting myself as a priority above anyone else. I know in a survival situation or when expedition guiding, I can’t look after others unless I look after myself so why do we not think it necessary to transfer this to everyday life? Why do we find it so hard to allow ourselves to love the one person we spend 24 hours a day with. Is it society? Our upbringing? The media? What holds us back falling madly, deeply in love with ourselves? #mindofasurvivor @megan_hine megan_hine Megan Hine

It’s a fine balance though isn’t it... between having enough self esteem to put yourself first and enjoy life and on the other hand coming across as a jumped up, egotistical, self important, wanker?? It’s also important to be our own strongest critics in order to grow and develop and be even more fucking awesome 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm certainly still learning to love myself. It took me until 37 to (truly) discover the outdoors and rocking up at a tarn in the lakes to camp for the night looking up at the she and stars makes me appreciate my life so much more. I believe it's our nature to care for others first as to most of us our own feelings are secondary when a loved one is hurting or in need. We all have that Florence inside us. As I've got older I've realised just how much the media and now social media can affect us and our belief that we're not worthy of our own love. If you were in London you would've read a lot of messages on a lot of cards! I often read all the ads too.

@megan_hine ..Totally believe you should love and respect yourself as much as others .. personally I am so critical of myself and always push to prove how far I can go with whatever I throw myself into .. always being told I am to hard on myself .. 👍
